We cannot find a better line concerning the importance of loyalty to Alma Mater than that expressed in the preamble to our Creed:
“….to instill and maintain in the hearts of its sons love for and loyalty to Alma Mater and its ideals; to inculcate among its sons such ideals as will result in actions worthy of the highest precepts of true manhood, democracy, and humanity.”
Loyalty to the Fraternity must not transcend loyalty to the university. Obviously there could not be any Chapter were it not for the university. Our Chapter is indelibly colored by the character and atmosphere of the institution of which it is an integral part. Learn the history of the university, and follow its customs and traditions.
As you turn the pages of this handbook you will read the statements of eminent educators who have a thorough understanding of the worth of fraternities. Delta Pi has always endeavored to foster close cooperation between university and fraternity.
Our Chapters are encouraged to promote informal conferences with college professors and instructors. Oftentimes, a member of the faculty is invited to the Chapter house for dinner, and an informal discussion on some interesting and timely subject follows. This is part of our cultural and educational program and affords members and candidates and excellent opportunity to meet with faculty outside of the classroom.
“I think college fraternities represent an ideal untiringly pursued with each new generation. Simply stated, the ideal is moral order founded on respect for self and others and on reverence for duty. This places high value on personal worth and dignity, fundamental to constructive leadership.” – Harry F. Byrd, US Senator
